Cutie-Patootie

There are many wonderful things about looking young for your age. I will appreciate the majority of them when I am in my 60s and yet somehow still look 40, but there are still moments every so often that make me appreciate my youthful appearance. Unfortunately, there are also a lot of things that are not so wonderful, like always getting carded and having people assume you’re still in college (because undergraduates, while full of vim and vigor, are kind of dum-dums). But the number one thing I do not appreciate about being adultily-challenged is that I cannot wear fun and whimsical things without looking cute.

Ah yes the dreaded cute. For the record, “cute” is a word that should be used to describe babies, puppies, Shirley Temple…and that’s about it. It is not an adjective that should be used for a strong, independent woman, and yet it is the one I hear most often applied to me. So I definitely don’t want to compound it by adding bows and lace and unicorn prints to my ensemble, no matter how badly I may want to.

So you can imagine how happy I was when I found this cute peplum top with a scalloped hem that somehow also managed to look totally meant for ages 22 and up. And the fact that it has stripes and is blue & white (seemingly the only colors I wear anymore) are just lovely little bonuses. Alas, while I may have to put up with being called the second worst c-word you can call a woman for a little while longer, at least I can find clothes that are just so gosh-darn adorable I never want to let them go!
