How To Get Away With Monochrome

Maybe it’s because I watched a lot of Power Rangers as a kid, or maybe it’s because I have come to have some sort of symbiotic relationship with my clothes, but I am a big believer in power colors. What’s a power color, you might ask? It’s that one color in your wardrobe that you can always put on and instantly feel more confident (walk a little taller, hold your head up a littler higher, etc). Now, I’m sure there’s a swath of folks out there who are scoffing at the idea that one color can change your entire outlook, but I would defy them to close their eyes (you can still roll them even if they’re closed) and picture their closets… There’s probably one color that stands out more than the others, isn’t there? In fact, I’d wager that the dress you grab for important dates and your tried and true interview outfit are all in that same color family, aren’t they? Well, looks like you’ve got yourself a power color there, friend! (Hey, if it worked for Gandalf, why shouldn’t it work for everyone?) Whenever I know I’ve got something big on the horizon, I turn to my signature, go-to shade (which also happens to be my favorite color): black. Sure, I may rock half the rainbow every other day, but when I’ve got to bring my A-est of A games, there’s only one color that never fails to make me feel like the strongest female to ever scorch this earth. Now, when it comes to rocking power colors, you can either do a little (a blouse here, a scarf there) or for extra good juju you can swaddle yourself in it from head to toe. Yes, even if it’s not a neutral one. The key is to make sure that if the shades don’t match exactly that the tones still work together or your look is at least grounded by an accent color.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go channel my inner Wednesday/Morticia/Adele/Angelina/Another famous person who always wears black and run this town like it’s my friggin’ job.
