Mixed Metallics

When it comes to date night/dinner with the girls/vampire slaying/after hours chic, few things beat the mullet-like glamour of a blazer and jeans (you know, business up top and party on the backside?). Seriously you guys: boyfriend blazer, blue jeans, can’t lose. It’s equal parts dressy sophistication and down home chill – or if you’re anything like me, you can’t wait to trade your work pants for jeans, but are too lazy to find another top. The only downside is that it’s also basically the toast of outfits – real bland and crusty without something to jazz it up. So what’s a girl to choose? Metallics-duh (which coincidentally is the name of my fashion metal band – we wear all black [so fashion, very wow] and screamsing the articles from last month’s Vogue). Now, you could certainly pick one like gold or silver and build a whole look around that… orrrrrrr you could go big (cuz you ain’t goin’ home) and re-mix those metallics! Utilizing our lesson in color theory from a few weeks ago, pick a few shades that are similar, but definitely not the same. For example, the gold in this necklace is the perfect transition shade between the pale, champagne-gold of the clutch and the deeper bronze of the glittery flats. Leaning more towards the cool end of the spectrum? Try a bright white platinum, mid-tone silver, and deeper hematite/pewter! It’s a super easy way to dress up your basics without having to tear through your closet for the bracelet that matched the ring that matched the purse that matched the belt that matched the shoes that matched the…. (Trust me guys, life is too short to worry about whether or not your socks or your metallics match).
