Recently while shopping with Emily (perhaps you know her?), I spotted a blush blazer than I thought would look totally amazing on her. When I pointed it out to her, she immediately and without hesitation said “Nope, won’t work”. I, never one to enjoy being told I am wrong (especially when it comes to dressing others) demanded she explain to me why she knew the blazer would not look good on her without at least trying it on. She then held up her arm to the blazer, at which point I realized she and the blazer were the Exact. Same. Color (Emily Pink, the Pantone hue of 2016).
That little experience got me thinking: we all have shades we tend to avoid because they are just not flattering. I, for example, spent years avoiding yellow like the plague because it makes me glow like a little alien person (or like Alex Mack…remember Alex Mack? I so wanted to be her. She made “surviving a mysterious chemical spill” look so cool). But yellow is no longer just “yellow”, now it’s mustard, goldenrod, canary and honey. And it just so happens that I can wear some of those yellow shades (like this lovely tee here) without you needing to put on sunglasses to look directly at me.
