Everyone knows the best friends of any #ladyboss is a cup of coffee and a pencil skirt. However, it wasn’t until I started my new job in the corporate world that I understood exactly how valuable a pencil skirt can be (believe me when I say I did not need this job to help me recognize the value of coffee, I always have and always will).
Pencil skirts are the ultimate “I mean business” business look, and I have found myself gravitating towards them with it comes to my 9-5 outfit planning. And as thankful as I am for that, the flip side is I did not like the idea of owning items that I couldn’t rock on my nights and weekends (AKA the times where I am the opposite of a #ladyboss…a #lazysauce? No, that’s not right). So I made it my mission to style my favorite pencil skirt for an occasion that involves a lot less pencils and a lot more fun, and I think I was about as successful as you might expect this professional to be.
My fool-proof method? A great tee is the perfect way to add a bit of casual to the ensemble, and a statement necklace and peep toe booties finish it off in an “let’s get down to the business of having fun” way. So thank you, dear pencil skirt, for being a friend through work and play. Now if only I could find a way make spreadsheets a bit more enjoyable… (There ain’t no party like an Excel party, cuz an Excel party feels endless).
