Omigod, omigod you guys!

Break out the balloons and (fashionable) party hats, people, because this little bouncing baby blog of ours is officially 52 weeks old! It’s amazing how much can change in 12 months and this week on the blog, we’re each taking a stylish stroll down memory lane and looking at our year of growth.

When we started on this journey, I lived pretty exclusively in a land of neutrals. Between my oversized, “Don’t talk to me” shades and  insistence on all black everything, I was basically the New York-iest New Yorker to ever hail from and live in the Midwest. Now, don’t get me wrong – I still love my neutrals (and bagels and grousing at people who walk slow #EverythingIKnowAboutNewYorkILearnedFromTV), but something I’ve discovered also on this little sojourn of ours is my unabashed looooove of color and print.

I must admit I’ve spent a lot of time in the past week trying to think of just one outfit that really illustrates my personal style growth in the last year, but there isn’t one (or perhaps, more appropriately, there isn’t just one). In my very first post, I described my personal style as “mercurial” and I think Past Me really hit that nail on the head (10 points to Ravenclaw). I’ve always been a person who dresses how I’m feeling- some days are built for comfort while others are all about pushing the envelope– but each outfit is just another facet of that same tank top wearing, skinny jean clad girl. To see real, honest to blog, true growth, you would have to go back a few more years. I mean, I’ve always appreciated fashion, but I haven’t always had style (unless awkward is a style, then I was the definitely the Coco Chanel of the mid-2000s).  Seriously, if you had told me 10 years ago, that one day I would a) own more dresses than pants, b) wear more skirts than hoodies, and c) find myself gravitating towards florals and hot, Barbie pink? I would have laughed in your silly, billy face. But, hey, a girl has the right to change her mind.

And since I’m re-examining my opinion of pink as more than just a color on the spectrum, here’s a few other things that have apparently earned a stay of execution in the court of Emily: maxi dresses, tulle, onesies, wide leg trousershats, pattern mixing (I like ’em graphic, I like ’em colorful, I like ’em simple, I like ’em complicated), and perhaps most surprisingly of all to me, shorts.

Emily from Fashion By Committee- Express Portifino blouse, Francesca's black scalloped shorts, Target Dolce Vita wedges, Charming Charlie druzy drop necklace, Kohl's Apt. 9 black floppy hat, Covergirl Katy Kat Matte lipstick in Perry Panther

So, here’s to another year of trying new things, taking risks, rolling with the punches, staying true to myself, and maybe, just maybe, believing that this Charmander has finally evolved into the Charizard she always knew she could be (whatever, I didn’t spend the weekend playing Pokemon GO, you did #JKITotallyDid #GottaCatchEmAll).

(Oh, and a major shoutout to my partners in crime and fashion. You guys are super neat and awesome human beings who inspire me on the daily. Now, cue the Golden Girls theme song already before my eyes start leaking)
