Stuff We Like: July

Another month has come and gone, and with that, it is time to share with you all a few of our favorite finds from the past 31 days! We hope you like these things as much as we do…or maybe even more! Don’t forget, in the wise words of Bianca Stratford…

(Full disclosure, we have neither Sketchers, nor Prada backpacks, but you get the general idea)

  • Kendra Scott (All bloggers worst kept secret is this is our jewelry of choice when it comes to everyday pieces. From delicate to statement, they seriously have it all.)
  • Pokemon Go (Sure we’re adults…well adult-adjacent, but we are all about this game that gets your heart pumping and your nostalgia flowing!)
  • Rosebud Lip Salve in a Tube (Sure the metallic tin is infamous…but it also gets your fingers all greasy. This is a much better alternative.)
  • Rose (Y’all, it’s refreshing, we’re basic. Get on board.)
  • Ice Cream (It’s no secret that summer is basically National Ice Cream season, and we figure if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. But, a bit of an upgrade from the usual vanilla with sprinkles is always a refreshing twist. For example, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream features flavors like Poached Pear or Ylang Ylang & Fennel to totally blow your mind and tastebuds!)
  • John Frieda Extra Strength Hair Serum (Literally makes the most ill-tempered hair mild and manageable. Now if only it worked it’s magic on people’s bad attitudes…)
  • Fit and Flare Skirts (An article of clothing that both defines your waist and gives you ample ventilation in 100 degree weather? What’s not to love?)
  • Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color (this stuff is super easy to apply, comes in some great colors, and might actually survive the apocalypse on your lips…or at least will get you through a night of drinking and dancing, whatever your pleasure)

No Ifs, Ands, Or Button Ups About It

Do you ever have those moments where you look back on your life and have one of those weird epiphany moments? Yes, of course you have, you’re human (…right?). For me, just such a moment happened the other day while watching The Princess Diaries for the four millionth time (Maybe I have a dream that Julie Andrews is actually my grandmother and someday someone will come along and do something about this rat’s nest I call hair, okay? #MiraclesHappen)

As I’m sure you recall (don’t act like you didn’t spend your youth in love with Robert Schwartzman. We all did. He said, like ten words, and was perfect), in the beginning of the film, our heroine is meant to be arguing for school uniforms in debate class but winds up getting all nervous and barfing instead. As I watched Anne Hathaway run towards the back of that classroom, I thought to myself, “I am so glad I never had to wear a uniform” and a little voice in the back of my head piped up and said, “Um, girl? Are you trying to tell me the sash with Girl Scout patches, the jazzy cummerbund/bowtie combo present at each and every band concert, and the stately black velveteen and satin dress you wore with grandma pumps to every choir concert were all personal fashion choices that you and 50 of your classmates just happened to make at the same time?”

(Hear that? It’s the sound of my brain exploding)

Needless to say, this was a stunning revelation that was only made more earth-shattering by the realization that not only have I previously worn uniforms, but I actually have one of my very own. That’s right! Whenever I find myself strapped for time or inspiration, I immediately grab for a button down, dark skinnies, a statement necklace (tucked under the collar of the aforementioned button down), and some funky shoes (and you know how much I love that hat). It’s my tried and true formula for looking cleverly put together while barely thinking about it. Mia was right- uniforms allow you to focus on the important stuff: schoolwork eating froyo bingewatching every British drama you can get your mitts on finally achieving world peace (or something).
