One of the many truly awesome things I’ve had the opportunity to do since moving to the Twin Cities is joining the board of a small local theater company. We had our annual fundraiser event this past weekend, and after years of working for non profits, it was so surreal to be ATTENDING one of these events rather than RUNNING it! At most non profits and arts orgs I’ve worked for, the annual fundraising event takes the form of a gala. But we’re not into that whole stiff/formal/traditional gala feel – so we just threw a really awesome party instead (complete with a live band and pizza!).
In keeping with the casual, fun vibe, I paired my new favorite black cami with a polka dot skirt, faux leather jacket, spiky necklace, red heels, and matching lipstick. It was the perfect mix of fun, edgy, and on-brand colors (had to make sure my special board member name badge matched my attire!). The jacket came off when it got too warm (ie after I discovered that the bartender made a delicious old fashioned), and the polka dots did an admirable job of distracting from the wine I spilled on my skirt as I tried to bid on silent auction items with a full drink in my hand (rookie move). I call that a successful party!
