Like any good Libra will tell you, life is all about balance (I mean, I assume? I’m a Sagittarius, so I’m really more about shooting the breeze and trampling the haters…) and personal style? Well, that works on a sliding scale. When you stand in front of your closet in the morning (all bleary eyed and wishing science would get a move on with that caffeine IV already), you have the chance to set the tone for the day: are you feeling casual or formal? Bright or muted? Glamour puss or grunge gal? For me the question usually is, “How lazy do I feel today?”. Do I want to figure out exactly how complicated a look can be before it falls apart (I see your outfit and raise you three patterns, a statement necklace and subtly bedazzled oxfords)? Or do I just want to put on my favorite leggings, throw my hair in a top knot and call it a day (otherwise known as “Emily Hit Snooze Until the Alarm Gave Up On Her”)? Let’s be real, we all know it’s the latter, rather than the former. It’s lucky for me then that simple doesn’t have to mean schlubby. With the right pieces in a basic color palette, minimalism can be marvelous.
Take this outfit for example- It looks glam AF, right? I mean, come on, I’m wearing heels and a big floppy hat! I’m basically one extra photographer away from being JLaw. In reality though? This skirt is comfy as hell, the hat obscures a bad hair day, and this tank top is blouse-y enough to give my food baby (hello, little nacho!) plenty of space to grow up and start a family of its own (hello, little pizza and fro-yo!). And that, my friends, is what I call a slam dunk (March Madness, brackets, squeaky shoe hoop, tall people who can’t buy pants off the rack… and I’ve completely exhausted my understanding of basketball).
