Two years ago today, I was about to get laced into this dress (with help – that’s Emily there on the left!), and marry the man whose name was written in my glittery shoes:
The intro song at our wedding (you know, the one they played when we made our triumphant entrance into the reception hall after the ceremony) was Jackie Wilson’s Higher and Higher. I picked it because it evoked exactly the mood I was looking for. Mike agreed because hey, it was in Ghostbusters 2. But the more I listened to it (and I listened to it a lot, because crafting the perfect soundtrack was vitally important), it felt more like our song than our first dance song (Rainbow Connection by Mr. Kermit the Frog, if you’re curious).
I said your love (your love keeps lifting me)
Keeps on (love keeps lifting me)
Lifting me (lifting me)
Higher and higher (higher)
We are lucky, we are so so lucky, that for every low we hit, we manage to lift each other up even higher.
So tonight, I’m going to put on a pretty blue dress:
And we’re going to toast to another year of higher and higher.
