One trend that I am seeing everywhere this Winter (dare I say, early Spring?) is vests. I definitely have dipped my toe into this style, and I am not going to say I didn’t enjoy it, but I do find incorporating a vest into an outfit a bit challenging.
That is, until I realized a vest is the perfect touch to add a bit of contrast to your look. Rocking a super flowy and feminine top? Throw on a military vest. Going for more of a menswear vibe? Top it off with cascade vest for movement. You can even belt a trench vest over a pleated midi skirt to create a kind of mullet vibe (business on top, party on the bottom). The possibilities are endless.
When I saw this vest hanging in the store the other day, I immediately thought up about a million ways I wanted to style it. However, almost all those ways involved pants. Never one to take the easy route (just ask my loved ones…), I wanted to challenge myself by creating an outfit that paired it with a dress. And voila, this look was born. I think it perfectly captures the whole contrast vibe I was going for: structured sheath dress + bib statement necklace + flowy vest =…well, I’ve never been great at math, but I definitely like it!
So there you go, yet another vest convert. I absolutely plan on in-vest-ing (couldn’t help it!) in a few more as the weather gets warmer as a fun way to layer without too much bulk. Til then, I’ll keep dreaming up fun combos (and working on my math skillz).
