The LBD has been lauded as the number one must have wardrobe staple by every single fashion magazine since the dawn of time (yes, I’m sure even the cave ladies could see the value in that kind of versatility- Wilma Flintstone and Betty Rubble were no slouches!). It’s such a tried and true rule that I’m pretty sure that if I got amnesia tomorrow, the only thing I would remember about my life is that I should own a little black dress. The reasons for this obsession are pretty clear: 1) Black is looks good on EVERYONE (it’s like the Sisterhood of the Universally Flattering Color), 2) Black is slimming, and 3) Black is crazy adaptable- it can go from boardroom to ballroom without having to consider the season.

One sure way to take the fun out of funeral (no, wait… that doesn’t sound right…) is to inject some color! Since black goes with everything, it doesn’t really matter what you pair with it (though I feel like bonus points should be involved if you manage to buy a color blocked dress that you forgot perfectly matches that statement necklace you own that doesn’t go with anything). With the right accessories, black can make a statement that color only wishes it could make.

Look at my wrist, it’s time to go.
