I am the first to admit that when it comes to outfit ideas, I need all the help and inspiration I can get. I am very good at buying pretty things (a skill cultivated by years of practice), not so much at putting them together with other pretty things to make a cohesive look.
This skirt is the perfect example. I bought this skirt almost exactly a year ago and am still completely obsessed. I mean, what’s not to love? It’s burgundy, it’s structured and it’s my favorite length (gotta love a midi). Plus, leather waistline, what is up?! So yes, this skirt and I are BFFLs, but alas, it has sat in the back of my closet since pretty much the day I got it. Why? Because I had no flippin’ idea how to wear it (and y’all know I tried everything). A sweater was too bulky while a blouse was a kinda of wispy; black and other dark colored tops made me look a bit nun-ish but then white and other neutrals looked too stark. I was a girl with a skirt and no plan (which I guess is better than the other way around, but still worthy of pity if you ask me).
Then the other day I was bouncing around between Instagram and some favorite fashion blogs, and I spotted a photo of a woman in a skirt that looked remarkably like mine paired with a chambray shirt (I am sorry to say I don’t remember where I saw it, but brilliant lady, please know I recognize and appreciate your genius!). I grabbed my skirt, my own chambray shirt, and a few of my favorite accessories and, wouldn’t you know it, I finally had a look I loved. So perhaps pretty much copying the exact look from another well-dressed woman isn’t the most original way to put together a cute outfit, but I say take your inspiration where you can get it (especially when it means you get to finally twirl around in your favorite skirt)!
