A quick story. I am from a family of 4: my two parents, one younger brother, and me. One of our most unique qualities as a family (besides the ability to all talk at each other at the same time and somehow understand every aspect of the conversation) is that my parents both have brown eyes but somehow I have green and my brother has blue (like gorgeous blue, like wasted on a boy BLUE). Ever since my brother was a baby, my mother has insisted on dressing him in blue to accentuate his eyes, and the habit definitely stuck. I however, was a little more independent (read: bratty) and refused to wear green as my mother asked. Instead I insisted on red at the age of two (you know, a color they make approximately zero little girl’s clothes in) and basically any color but green from then on.
Well make note folks because I am about to say something every mother longs to hear and every daughter dreads saying: Mom, you were right (but don’t get used to hearing it, I am still very…let’s stick with independent). I have found that green without fail is an exceptionally flattering color on me, and not just because it brings out my eyes. Whether it be olive, forest or really anything but lime (cuz honestly, who looks good in lime?), green is a color I reach for over and over again. As fun as it is to play with whatever colors are in season, it is also a really nice to have a few hues in your back pocket that you just know make you look and feel gorgeous. For me, despite what Kermit says, and despite my fighting it for years, I find it’s pretty easy being green.
