After 5 months of reading this blog, you have probably come to realize I am practically perfect in every way (the list reads: me, Mary Poppins, end of list). Yet if I had one flaw (hard to believe, I know), it would be that I am notorious for not getting into the holiday spirit until the last moment. And I don’t mean just not buying gifts until days before (although yes, I do procrastinate hard on that too.), I mean I just live a regular life until basically Christmas Eve when I remember “oh yeah, it’s Christmas, let’s get merry up in here!”.
I am sure as a child I felt the Christmas spirit for a full month before the big day, but as I get older and stupid everyday junk gets in the way of my jolly, I find myself waiting later and later to feel that great Christmas warmth (Charlie Brown).
Despite this grinch-like sensibility, one part of the Christmas season I am definitely not immune to is Christmas colors. Come December, I cannot help but wear reds, greens, silvers and golds on a daily basis. I don’t even plan it, I just grab for them by instinct. This scarf for example? You cannot deny it is all sorts of festive and merry, and it definitely makes me feel warmer inside and out. So perhaps I am feeling those hohoholidays a bit more than I give myself credit for.
And hey, if as a result of all these holiday hues, my heart grows a size or two, I say all the better. I may be practically perfect, but there is always room for improvement!
