Tis A Gift To Be Simple

You know, sometimes it’s so easy to focus on all of the things that make you unhappy that you forget to recognize the bright, shiny times and give them their due credit. Life isn’t an easy, breezy carefree adventure. It’s messy. It has its ups and its downs, good moments and bad ones. You can try and schedule it all you want, but life does not give a flying pony about your best laid plans. Sometimes your vision for how it will be and the reality of what it is are not going to sync and you know what? That’s okay. Really (and it’s okay if you struggle with that. We all do.). In turbulent times like these, it’s so easy to focus on the negative and forget to acknowledge the positive. So today, I’m taking a moment to reflect.

I’m thankful. I’m thankful to have a family that loves and supports me even when I’m being a little shit (who me? Never…) and has given me enough hilarious stories to write the kind of memoir that would end up on Oprah’s booklist (no one commits fraud buying two rotisserie chickens). I’m thankful to have found a bunch of cool people who I get to call friends who get me AND my pop culture references (I just want to slap his hideous, beautiful face). I’m thankful to have a roof over my head and food in mah belly (and caffeine coursing through my veins). I’m thankful for my health (and I’m thankful that I’m sensible enough to be thankful for that and not working under the delusion that I am somehow invincible). I’m thankful for the opportunities that I have had and the ones yet to come. I’m thankful for the moments that have shaped me and helped me grow as a human person. I’m thankful that leggings are stretchy enough to accommodate the bountiful feast my mouth is about to receive. I’m thankful for you, dear reader, and for the fact that you read to the end of this post. You’re my kind of people (the secret word is “banana bread”. Don’t tell the others, it’ll be our little secret. One day, I’ll just say “banana bread” and we’ll knowingly look at each other and nod… dammit, now I want banana bread). Thank you and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
