I’m not generally the type of gal who wears a skirt to the ballpark. I tend to prefer watching my favorite team while indulging in my favorite junk food (give me nachos or give me death!) in the comfort of my own pants. But not every night is Star Wars night, and not every skirt is an R2D2 skirt.
It seems like with each passing year, more and more people are letting their fandom flag fly. Judging by the number of people I know who have been salivating over the latest trailer for the new Star Wars movie (um…is it too early to get in line? Also, did you see Covergirl’s Star Wars line?! I’m going to need a minute…), or freaking out about the latest season of Game of Thrones, there are a lot of geeks out there! As a lifelong connoisseur of the finer things in life, it excites me to see so many people unleashing their inner nerd.
As my sense of style has evolved, so has my way of displaying my fan pride. Where I used to wear ill fitting t-shirts while carrying a purse covered in buttons (I was basically a walking billboard for the Lord of the Rings at one point), I now pick and choose pieces for a more subtle, fashion forward impact. A Doctor Who necklace here, a Grumpy Cat button there, a dinosaur shirt on occasion- one piece at a time rather than an entire outfit dedicated to every single thing that I love. Today, I’m more interested in looks that are inspired by my favorite fandoms than an outfit that shout from the rooftops, “I AM BATMAN. J/K, I’M JUST A GIRL WHO REEEALLY LOVES HIM”
I geeked out hardcore when I stumbled across this skirt on pinterest. My friend and co-worker Katie said, “Oh, I bet I can make that” and I said, “REALLY?!” (because I have absolutely zero sewing ability… or chill apparently). And you know what, guys? She did! Using her magic sewing guru skills, she put this bad boy together (based off this skirt design- Go check out this Etsy shop, there’s a Death Star skirt! Seriously. I’ll wait.) and subsequently helped me fulfill my childhood dreams of becoming the coolest Star Wars character (yes, R2 is even cooler than Boba Fett).
