Emily’s Fall Wish List

As much as I love summer (and boy howdy, do I love me some summer), I can’t help but get just a teensy bit excited about all of the great things autumn has to offer: discounted school supplies (the day I don’t take advantage of a back to school sale is the day someone should check my pulse because I’m probably dead), the beautiful fall foliage, the extra hour of sleep that Daylight Savings Time provides, hot chocolate, and, of course, the opportunity to layer all of my favorite cooler weather clothes. The transition from sundresses to sweaters can be a rocky one, but the right set of (wardrobe) tools can help ease the way. Here are a few pieces that I’m jones-ing for this fall:

A chambray shirt with just the right oomph

Girl seeking chambray shirt to complete picture of wardrobe bliss. The ideal candidate would be lightweight enough to layer, faded in all the right places, drapey enough to hide a food baby (his name is Nacho and he was my lunch), and yet not too blousey for a good tailored tuck. Accepting applications now.

A chambray shirt is the perfect workhorse to transition my summer favorites into fall basics. As the weather starts to cool down, I’ll layer one of these over my favorite summer dresses and add a cardigan (the slouch of this one is perfect for fall) for some bonus fall flavor. The roughness of this shirt is precisely what my pearl necklace (which you may remember from a few posts ago- find it here) needs to keep from looking too fussy; I’ll layer it under a fun striped sweater (like this one), booties, and jeans to add texture to my casual Friday look. And when the air gets extra crisp, this blue button down will prove to be the perfect mate to my never ending collection of dark skinnies, brown riding boots (similar), a cute scarf (I’ve got my eye on this one), and my insanely cozy, oversized cable knit sweater (for perfect slouch and roomy cuddle factor, I actually recommend perusing the men’s department. You can find a similar one to mine here– get used to it folks, cuz you’re going to be seeing a lot of it).

I am absolutely in love with the way Lauren over at StyleElixer styled her chambray with colored skinnies (SPOILER ALERT: They’re also on this wish list) and super fun (yet classic) accessories, so don’t be surprised if you see me grabbing some inspiration from here!

The perfect leather jacket

If I were to describe my dream leather topper, I would basically be painting you a picture of this flawless Michael Kors jacket. The big knit fold over collar is the perfect backdrop for all of my favorite fall scarves, the cut nips in at the waist to ward off the boxy leather clad Spongebob Squarepants effect, and the rest of the trimmings are subdued enough to keep a gal from looking too Greased Lightning (a major issue I have with most black leather jackets). I actually had my mitts on this bad boy once, but as a broke college student I just couldn’t pull the trigger on the hefty price tag at the time. Now with a (slightly) healthier pocketbook, I renew my hunt for the illusive dream jacket. It’s a piece that I don’t mind spending a little extra dough on now because a good quality one will get me through at least two and a half seasons for many years to come. Here are a few of the gladiators contending for my dollars at the moment:

A good leather jacket can be the Swiss Army knife in a girl’s wardrobe; it’s an excellent utility tool that can do just about anything (as long as that thing involves you being a total badass). It’ll be the perfect final touch any time I decide to wear all black everything (i.e. every other day…).  I’ll use it to toughen up my dark floral dress (I got my dress from Target a couple seasons back and not Saks [yikes bikes, that’s expensive] but you get the idea), tights, and my favorite black buckle booties (similar-ish). It’ll make my favorite LBDs and heels look that much cooler. You know, come to think of it, it’ll make ALL of my clothes look cooler… hopefully that effect will rub off on me.

(Bonus look for those who aren’t as enamored with black as I am: Rosie Huntington Whiteley makes colored leather look so friggin’ cool. Obsessed.)

A skinny rainbow

Flares may be making a roaring comeback this fall (good luck tucking all that extra fabric into boots), but you will find me sticking to my one true love- skinnies. Thanks to many an afternoon spent perusing Pinterest, I am now obsessed with the idea of deeply saturated slacks.

Ahhhhhh, I can already picture how it will be. I’ll find a beautiful pair of plum pants and pair them with a loose cream sweater, my spiky gold flats (you know ’em, you love ’em), and a leopard print scarf. The bright blues would combine beautifully with a black and white polka dot button down, blazer, and pumps to make the perfect graphic statement.  A pair of deep olive pants would look fantastic with a solid black v neck sweater and brown belt. And my aforementioned dream leather jacket would be extra dreamy with a black and white striped top and maroon skinnies.

Still not convinced? Well, let the Queen of Skinnies herself, TSwift, show you how it’s done (here, here, here, herehere, oh and here too). If that doesn’t inspire you to run out and get your own pair, you’re made of sterner stuff than I.

Kate Spade’s collection of cute cats… just because

Do I need it? No. Can I afford it? Not really. Is it nice to dream and adorable as all get out? Hell yes! I’ve always loved how Kate Spade continuously churns out timeless pieces with a twist. Each season they put out their ubiquitous stripes, dots, and colors (I’ve been in love with this watch since forever) in a plethora of classic cuts which obviously are meant to be the perfect canvas for their season specific adorably funky accessories. I gotta say, as much as I loved this summer’s festive flamingos, I am deeply digging the Cats of Autumn (Dibs on the super sweet band name I just made up- but check out these cute earrings!). And as if the pretty kitties weren’t awesome enough, those wizards also figured out a way to make mice STINKIN’ adorable! Hello cute flats!

What would I wear it with? Everything, obviously. Now shhhhhhhh, mama’s dreamin’…

What about you guys? What pieces are YOU dying to try out this fall?
